At ease on the water
Usually the second session: you feel properly comfortable and do real paddleboarding, sitting, kneeling, then standing. A board and a kayak on site, so you try both.

Safety and trust are two of your dog's 12 core needs. On the water everything is new: a surface that moves, the balance, the noise. That is exactly why we go slowly. A dog who steps onto a board in confidence has understood something that will serve him far beyond the water.

Three stages, one path. The introduction is the learning: getting on, getting off, staying calm, finding your balance again, understanding what is happening under his paws. The second session is where confidence builds: real paddleboarding, sitting, kneeling, then standing, plus a kayak to try. The adventure day is what follows: a proper trip on the water, once your team has the basics.
You don't put a dog on a board to see what happens.We build every stage on dry land before living it on the water. Your dog sets the pace, and if one day he says no, we stop there and pick it up next time.
Safety, before anything else
- › A buoyancy aid sized for your dog, provided for the session.
- › Calm, shallow water for the introduction, never a current.
- › The dog is never attached to the board or the kayak.
- › Water gear included: board, paddle, buoyancy aid for you.
- › Group capped at 4 teams, so everyone stays in my sight.
You don't need to know how to paddleboard. You don't need a dog who swims. You just need to want it.
What your dog gets out of it
An unstable surface, an unfamiliar place, and you right there beside him. Your dog learns that a new situation is not a threat when the two of you go through it together. That lesson shows up everywhere afterwards: in town, in the car, on holiday.
And what you get out of it?
The freedom to go. During the session you learn to:
- › kit your dog out properly for the water,
- › read the signals that say he isn't ready,
- › handle getting on, getting off and falling in without panic,
- › pick a stretch of water and a moment that suit the two of you.
This summer you head off with your dog. And you know what you are doing.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be sporty to take part?+
Not at all. At Epic Dog everyone takes the adventure their own way. Some teams like pushing themselves physically. Others simply want to slow down, explore somewhere new, breathe, and share a special moment with their dog. Nobody needs to be an athlete. The point is to live something together.
Can I join without doing coaching?+
Absolutely. Every Epic Dog activity is open to every team. Before some group adventures we simply take the time to talk, so the experience is pleasant and safe for everyone. Humans and dogs alike.
My dog hates water, or is scared of it?+
No problem, we adapt. Your dog wouldn't be the first to start out that way. Some finish the session with dry paws, others surprise us. Both are a success.
I've never paddleboarded, can I come?+
Yes, that is exactly what the introduction is for. You both learn at the same time, and that is often what makes the session so good.
Do I need the introduction before the adventure day?+
Yes, unless your dog already has experience of water and of the board. The adventure day assumes your team is ready: on the day we move together and I can't take the time to desensitise a dog while the group waits. The introduction makes sure everyone arrives at the same level and that the day is a pleasure for all.
What should I bring?+
For you:
- closed shoes that can go in the water
- clothes that can get a bit wet
- a change of clothes for the way home
- a hat or a cap
- sunglasses (careful, they can end up in the water: not your favourite pair, or use a strap)
- sun cream
- water
For your dog:
- a harness (rather than a collar)
- a dog buoyancy aid if you have one, otherwise I bring one
- something to reward him with (treats and/or a toy)
- water and a bowl
- a long line
- towels
Water gear is provided.
For the adventure day: your picnic, if you would rather bring it than eat at the inn.
Is food included in the price of the adventure day?+
Depending on the adventure there are two options: either everyone brings their own picnic, or you choose between a picnic and eating at the inn. Everyone does as they like, and we confirm which after you sign up. Food not included.
